Nobody wants roosters

Several of our chicks we hatched back in May turned out to be roosters. We don't need a bunch of roosters. After offering them up to my friends, we had no takers.


So we introduced them to my old friend Mr. Blackstone.


With some sautéed peppersandonionsandmushrooms.
A fitting end to some beautiful birds.

Looks good! That would have been a nice furnace hackle cape on that sucker in a year or two.

Back in high school I raised Rose combed black bantam chickens for show. At the end of summer I always had a gaggle of cockerels and a few substandard hens that needed culled.
My Mom was always happy to get a dozen or so dressed birds for the freezer.
And since they were mostly free range the were tasty.

Wrong place wrong time...i bet if he knew he was going on the griddle he'd of pushed an egg out somehow...
