Our Home AC Quit Working ...

Our AC company came by this morning to check on our system and did confirm that we are definitely losing refrigerant. They filled it two weeks ago and it has lost some since then.

With that bad news, I requested their sales guy to stop by and gives us a quote on replacement. The prices for a complete new 3.5 ton 14 seer heat pump system were only about $1500 apart for either a Lenox, Carrier, or Trane brand system. Lenox was the cheapest and was what he recommended.

I have always thought Carrier was top of the line but he said he thought Lenox was the best bang for the buck. We will be getting the 10 year parts and labor extended warranty with whatever brand we go with so it will be covered until then. He also said 10 - 12 years is the usual life expectancy of the new units.

Anybody have any knowledge or experience with Lenox systems?

I just got a 3.5 ton Oxbox package unit in February for $7000 total. That also included rerouting some duct from the old air handler under the house.

that's a good price!
