Well folks – another Spring Fling has come and gone and this trip just added another chapter in our long history of this event. This was our 22nd year of this trip – pretty special when you think about it. We ended up having some pretty good fishing weather and that wasn’t the case leading up to it. It looked like last Saturday was going to be a very WET day (all-day) but it ended up being a good fishing day with just clouds and no rain!
The Founding Father of this trip Mr. Rhettro also known as Old Man Wisdom became a 4-time Champion this year with his 4-pound 2 ounce largemouth. He caught 3-other 4-pounders and a boo-koo of 3 pounders as well. I caught a couple 3-pounders myself, and some other guys did too. So……..while we didn’t catch any monsters we caught plenty of solid 3-4 pound bass!
The fellowship and the food was top-notch as usual. We held it out at Hard Labor Creek State Park for the 2nd year in a row and they really do a great job with their lakes and their lodging out there. We stayed in the Cabins, and they are so nice. It sure beats sleeping in a tent on the hard ground!
Baits that caught fish included Flukes / Senkos / Plastic Lizzard / Chatterbaits and the winning fish was caught on a chatterbait – that bass couldn’t stand that thumper coming rolling by! We fish the small lake over in the park by the campground and then the bigger lake (Rutledge) that is a short drive away and then we open up the Hard Labor Reservoir for those that don’t have a gas motor on the back of your boat. It is in fact – Electric Motor only and a couple of our guys found that out the hard way, but they just got a warning and no ticket from Mr. Green Jeans.
The older I get the more this trip means to me and our group – it’s a special event and we had another great Spring Fling in 2024.
Here are some pics to share of the fish and the fellowship and the food.
Tight Lines everybody!
