AGFC stocked about 100 in 80s. There’s over 500 now with qouta based hunting. They love well maintained hay fields.

Elk meat is way better than deer. The solution to the problem is continue to protect wolves. want be long and they want have an elk problem.

I have heard that Nilgai is the best wild game meat in North America. Some would say Nilgai are not “wild” since they are non-native and the majority of them reside on private ranches but most of those ranches are low fence and there are fully wild populations.

I can attest that Nilgai is very good.

The wolves will take care of the elk once they spread more into eastern Wy

Wolves are smarter than that. Cattle are a lot easier to catch.

IMHO and experience, the best red meat in North America is a tie between Axis deer and Moose. As for the most satisfying red meat (and one I dream to experience), sheep ribs the night you harvest one high up in the mountains.

My palate says elk, which is still technically venison, is far more flavorful than beef, and completely blows our Georgia deer away.

That's my experience having had elk maybe 12-15 times.
