I live in Auburn GA(Near Dacula). I was clearing a section to put a chicken run and noticed this hole. It was hidden under thick brush. Size of a baseball. Thoughts? I cant put a chicken run on top of this until I figure out what made it and if its still in there lol. Smoke it out? Pour water? Pour in concrete? Help a noob out, thanks :)

Maybe a mole? Looks small for a gopher. Moles I thought would leave a mound like a volcano. Could be old.

Doesn't appear to be an active hole, too small for an armadillo, can't think of anything that would use one that small, its not close to water is it ?

It sure looks very perfectly round to be made by a critter. Have you poked a stick in there to see how deep it is, or if it changes directions?

This is exactly what it is. Confirmed with a flashlight lol. I have soil boundary markers all throughout my property and I wondered how they tested it. Now I know.

Thanks everyone.
I’ve dug 10000+ holes just like that. Just fill it in with dirt and put that chicken coop up.
