6 inches of rain here since Sunday evening. We sure don't have to water our gardens here. If I ain't careful, the garden will be over run with weeds after this week of rain.

it has been raining here since Sunday. I haven't checked, but we are well north of 6 inches, and it looks like it will rain all day today too.

The deer have invaded my beans again. The only way I am going to keep them out is to build a fence at least 6ft tall. Dag blastit. I didn't want to do that because of getting the tractor in and out, but it doesn't look like I am gonna have a choice if I want to eat peas and beans.

My wife told me she (me) wanted to plant some pumpkins for fall decorations and our soon to be 1 year old grandson.

What is the best variety do you guys recommend for decorations and maybe a jack o lantern or 2 that is bug and disease resistant?

Look for varieties that are in the C. Moschata or the C. Maxima family. They are more hardy for the south.

There’s a couple hybrid Jack o lantern types with pmr in the name. Standing for powdery mildew resistant. I have mustang pmr and maybe one other. I planted this time last year and they still got ate up with bugs and disease. I don’t even attempt to grow eating pumpkins this time of year. Try to get those planted early before bug pressure gets bad. I also plant ones called hooligan, casperita, and blaze. I expect disease and bugs in all of them, but they are just for decoration so we just take what we can get essentially
