I am 55, and have never owned a .308..308 is what I pick because that's what I shoot the most of.

It's one caliber that I just can't warm up to for some reason. I've had a couple but sent them down the road.I am 55, and have never owned a .308.
i said that once about a 10/22...and I got you by 10I am 55, and have never owned a .308.
I sure do like mine. I need to get the scope back on mine so we can have a shoot out I think I only have 4 bullets left for mine. Might have to twist some up.
I have looked for one in -06 or 308. Can't find one less than 1-1/2 war pensions and a right noduleIf I had three, I`d give one of them to you, out of the goodness of my heart.
I seem to see a lot of high wall 7MM Rem, but I just can't bring myself to like that round. 7 x 57, shoot yeah. Mag... not so mucha .308 would be a Low Wall if it was a Browning. The last time I found one...it was a .22-250 in High Wall (they made them both ways in that cal) and it was 16 hunurd...had to pass
My dad gave me a .308 when I was 5. I killed my first deer with it when I was 8. I’m 32 now and shot a 200 lb buck last year with it at 290 yards. It still has the old peep through mounts on it. The .308 isn’t the only rifle I use but I sure trust one.I am 55, and have never owned a .308.
Me too.270 imo of the calibers listed. And actually target practice at 350. But any of those will kill a deer at 350. Just be proficient with whichever you pick. 308 is my favorite of those listed but I’m picking up my 7mm rm or 300 wm if I’m shooting over 300.
I have a ordered a 6x24x50 vortex with BDC reticle. I have decide to put it on my 270 to use.
Here's the scope I ordered. Academy is giving a $100 gift card as well. That's more than enough magnification to zoom way in on the full effective range of the .270 Win. It'll be great when you are on a powerline or clearcut and trying to see out there.
FFP or SFP ?
Illuminated ?
How fine is the reticle ?
Close your eyes and pick one.So... I'm a bowhunter mostly but I do enjoy picking up a rifle for the last week of October till about mid November.
I recently picked up a new property that is really nice with a lot of buck sign from this past season. The kind of sign that a mature buck hunter as myself likes to see.
This property is 90% field with a power line running through it with the powerline splitting about 25 acres of woods.
I can position a tower stand where I can shoot about 350 yards in every direction.
I've never been a long range shooter. I've made 2 killing shots over 200 yards. One on a doe, the other a hog.
I have many calibers to choose from. 6mm Rem, 243, 270, 30-06, 308, 7mm-08.
I can make an argument for all of them .
Which one would you want in that situation?
^^^ This.I would also recommend a couple good sandbags to use in the tower stand, regardless of which caliber you choose to hunt with
