Actually a 30/30 iron sites from 1977. I use it when the areas I hunt are thick. To be fair, this is my first miss ever with this gun.
A 30-30 on a big bodied deer is a good candidate for no exit wound. If it was a soft point, and all the older amo is, it might have broken up as well.

I sent a PM. If you have not found a dog then let me know. There is a 10% chance of rain from 2 am through the afternoon. Any rain at all and your chances a dog can find your deer will be near zero. You can not wait till morning. My daughter and her friend are available and waiting to hear back from me. My daughter's dog is in training so she would not charge. A note on the 30-30. I have lung shot deer before with a 30-30 and had them go 500 yards before bedding down and expiring. I have also shot plenty that looked confused but did not respond like they had been shot. You have one and maybe two bucks down.
