Mineral lick

When I was a kid my great uncle had a salt lick in the corner of his field. The clay hole is still there 35 years later. I got my truck stuck in it once as a teenager. He just kept throwing salt in the hole. No fancy mineral additives. I put my first lick in today.

2 trophy rocks
1 lucky buck bucket
1 deer cane
50 pound cattle salt
50 pound salt block
50 pound mineral block

All in one 10' low area. How long before deer hit it? How many trees did I just kill?

Haha - here it is - the annual mineral lick picture (from a few years back) ....they are all over it during the summer.

We tried ( with great success) gallon baggies full of rock salt soaked in grape or red gator aid. Deer will tear it up just as bad as that expensive stuff. We weren’t trying to raise deer…..just kill em. Put it out late spring.

This is about like my great uncles field lick. Not as deep as this though. He used nothing but salt and red clay. This thing is awesome!

Man. First deer hit the lick 12 hours after I put it in. The does are all over it! Wondering if a buck will ever show up. Girls got it locked down right now.

Sure hope you plan on pouring some gas on your mineral lick area to keep the deer out of it now. We don't need no CWD growing in there.

We clear cut it. I keep wondering if they will find it again.
You better hope not. Mineral licks are just as bad as corn with CWD. And the way you've been carrying on I figured you would have taken care of it already. Not to mention, it's totally classless and real hunters don't use bait. Your words.
