Bugs is bad this year anyhow. Mighta been fine if not for a heavy bug year.My little spot is jumping, all except the brussel sprouts that is. I knew it was way too late to plant them, but tried anyway. Bugs are tearing them up.
Most every farmer in my area have pivots running in their fresh planted fields, we’re do for a shower.

Got my garden laid out finally. Got 5 rows of silver queen and 3 rows of okry planted as well. Plan on finishing up this afternoon. Have 40 mater and about 20 pepper plants to get in the ground. Also have squash and zucchini, beans and cucumber seeds to plant by the cattle panels. Going to try and grow the squash and zucchini vertical this year. Think it will be a total failure but going to try. View attachment 1303151
Thanks! I'll post pics as it starts growing.Man U always have a fantastic garden! Post pics as it grows please. Im Gonna use cattle panels for my beans this year, it’ll be a lot more expensive but I think more convenient in the end.
What does it mean to plant vertically?
Thanks! I'll post pics as it starts growing.
Planting vertical is when you "train" the plant to grow up instead of out like normal. You have to tie the main stem to a post as it grows. This helps keep the vine borers off and gives more airflow around the plant which helps with controlling powdery mildew.
Well, thank you Jesus, I have most of my garden in the ground now. I have around 50 tomato plants, and 30 different pepper plants, that gave been in the ground for a couple of weeks. Tonight I put in 3 rows of Mountain 1/2 runners, 2 kinds of cucumbers, crook neck squash, zucchini, and around 6 hills of cantaloupes.
I still have to get my sweet corn planted, but I haven't gotten that field plowed yet. My rows are ready for the okry, but I usually plant it in mid May, after the soil warms up a lot more.
it got plumb dark on me before I could get out of the garden tonight. I will get some pictures in the next couple of days. I put down 3 rows of plastic mulch for my 'maters, peppers, squash, and such. I need to put wood chips in between the rows to keep the weeds down. You know we like pictures?

My 'maters have doubled in size this week. They were about 3 inches out of the ground, now they are over a foot tall. I will have to start staking them this weekend
I have heard of plastic mulch but don't know anything about it?
