Shallow well pump

We have a shallow well at our hunting camp, but right now, no pump. We also have no electricity. We are thinking about installing a gas powered pump to pump water to a 55-gallon drum mounted about 8 feet off the ground. Does anyone have any experience with shallow wells and gas pumps? Any other ideas? By the way, the water is about 30 feet down.

I'm sure it would pull the water put not too fast....the same site does have a old fashioned hand pump also,we have used them in the past and have had good luck with them.

It should...................

We put a tee in the line..........At the top of the pipe, there is a hand pump with a valve under it...............at the side there is a fitting for the gas pump, with a valve on it...........

If we just want plain hand pump water to wash up with or clean up dishes.................then the side valve is closed and the top valve is open.

If we are pumping the tanks full then the top valve is closed and the side valve is open................you follow me??

then you've always got some sort of water available.(to prime the gas pump or wash up or whatever)
