Update:

Fried Squirrels, Mac&Cheese, Sweet Corn, Biscuits, and Watermelon for supper tonight...

The Boys ate hearty, and enjoyed the fact that they were eating food that we got for ourselves, from the woods.

So, we're headed back after the rats again in the morning, hoping to score the makings for some Squirrel & Dumplings next time...

I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Well, an early storm that wasn't supposed to happen until afternoon fouled up our plans...

We were just getting out of the truck good when the sky turned dark, and the wind started whipping...

Rode around the woods a while hoping it'd quit raining, but after a tribal meeting we decided to try em another time. By the time we got home, it was clearing up...

No meat.

Okay, here you go, mom's recipe from 50 years ago:
Squirrel Stew:
3 squirrels
2 onions, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
2 medium potatoes, diced
1/4 diced celery
4 tblspns chili powder
Salt & Pepper to taste
Dash (or two) of hot sauce
1 cup cooked rice

Cover squirrels with water and cook until tender. Remove from water and cool; reserve broth. Remove meat from bones and put back into broth. Bring to a boil and add all the other ingredients except rice. Cook for about 45 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add cooked rice and serve hot.
