Snakes are out. Watch your step.

Man I have seen more snakes this hunt than I ever have my entire life in north Ga.

I’ve seen some sorta snake almost every day, my brother saw a timber rattler, I’ve seen two copperheads (probably the same snake, we were in the same area) my wife ALMOST stepped on it, pretty sure her boot tip tapped it, she jumped back and was slightly frantic for a second.

Someone help me ID this one, I think it’s a northern water snake, but not 100% I couldn’t get a photo of the head, but it was narrow, non venomous.

I shot a small timber rattlesnake out from under the back porch yesterday. That makes 5 we have come across in the yard this year and the 2nd one under the porch. My lab got bite by one of those 5.

Seen two while out, a nice king snake and a nasty rattler. Needless to say that rattler didn't make it far not by my hands but someone got them some rattlers as a souvenir.

Both of these were within 10 foot of each other.

By the way I really really hate snakes. My wife tolerates them.

My wife decided she was going to bush wag back to the truck for fresh signs through the animal paths before we decided to head out for prescouting and then the ride home. I decided to make my own path while she cut through the hardwoods for the kids and I said I'm going through the laurels. My oldest kid started following me while she keep the youngest kid back clearing a path at head level for a kid to. My wife had caught up with me through the hardwoods while I was waving through the laurels about that same time my oldest said "DADDY there is a snake you walked over" when she almost crossed it and my wife SNATCHES her back to identify the snake as non poison and takes them around it and catches up to me the other 10 foot.

So then I had the hibby gibbys and my wife started leading the way again 10 foot from the non poison snake. AS soon as she took lead she said that is the venomous one and while I was looking for it still she took care of it an finished cutting the path out of the laurels to the road back to the truck for me and the kids.

Needless to say I was done for the day even though the wife wanted to go do some prescouting for opening gun on the NF. She said your not going to go now are you, and I said nope and off to the homestead we were bound.

Now here we are pulled off for a Bonus early rifle deer hunt in the morning 45 mins from home.

So soon as we grab the bows and cover the kids in orange and spray we are off to scout out the first field for the early rifle hunt in morning and stalk out for hogs. There again she leads the way kicking around for movement for us to make a clean path of no snakes in the grass. 20 yards in my oldest says really momma, my wife says what?.. Kid says you don't see that snake skin and my wife says yes but there is no snake in it so no reason to tell you "HAHA" and spook your dad again.... She says it was just a old rat snake skin, it was about 6ft long.

So yes keep eyes out. They are in the mountains out. And also 3 hours away headed back home.
