Hello everyone first time posting here. I've been scouring the forum for the last couple months but just made an account. Went down to GA for the November bear and had the time of my life.
First of all let me tip my hat to you N GA boys this is some brutal terrain you got. Nothing like my home state of ohio.
Hunted the first day in the rain and didnt find anything but bear scat no sightings. The next morning around 10am after hiking a few hours I trailed a bear into a muscadine thicket. Fresh scat everywhere and disturbed leaf tracks. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life he popped out of a rootball crater at 15ft away and stood up. I was tangled in vines, scope cover on, and straddling a log. I jumped off and tried to aim but the bear took off.
After settling down from that I ended up hiking back to the truck and got there around 1:00pm. I figured I would drive to a new area and hunt the evening. Started stalking a new area and an hour in I sighted my first bear browsing on acorns from about 200 yards. I waited him out for about 5min until he moved into a gap between two trees. First shot was right in the lungs dropped him and he rolled down the ravine. He hit the bottom after tumbling down the mountain and got up running. Second shot barely missed and third shot hit high shoulder/spine and dropped him. I was blown away and super happy to get the job done a clean kill and fresh meat.
No less than a minute later I heard crashing through the leaves and on the opposite side of the ravine another bear walked out in open timber. 80 yard chip shot and I figured what the heck 2 bear limit so I let him have it. He dropped in his tracks.
The next 8 hours I packed them both out got finished around midnight. Definitely top 3 most awesome hunting experience in my life. You guys have a great state to hunt. I'm addicted to these mountains now and came back down for a family vacation last week Dec 9-12. Got out for a half day to hunt mountain hogs. Found a wallow but didnt see any hogs. Will be back after some hogs hopefully in February. Thanks to all for the informative posts on here it definitely helped me on my mission to get a bear.
