Going to gift an auto to my daughter for her daughter. Car has veterans plates which iam keeping to put on my new truck. Anyone know how to do this with minimal cost/tag fees?

I think you are good to go with the tag but my understanding is that each tie the car is re-titled the State gets a new bite out of the excise tax apple. Family members may be taxed at 50% or something but I think the State still wants money.

There is a form you can fill out and have notorized and the tax for the tag each year is only 20 dollars. But it must be a family member. I'm don't remember the form number. My sister gifted a car to my daughter and I did this.

I looked up the form. It is MV-16.

The GA DMV site FACs say that if the vehicle is in the TAVT system, transfers to immediate family members call for a TAVT of .5% of the FMV of the vehicle. If it is in the old advalorem system it can continue there with annual tax or it can come into the TAVT system by paying the full TAVT on the value of the vehicle.
