Hog breeding

I have always heard that feral hogs can breed up to 2-3 times per year and that sows come into heat at all months of the year.

For 3 straight years on this property I have only seen piglets on trail cam in December.

I’m sure there are lots of factors like hunt pressure, overall numbers, etc but I’m starting to think these hogs have a single set breeding season similar to other wild animals.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I’ve always heard that sows would come in heat around 5 times in 2 years. Also I’ve noticed when pregnant sows get close to having pigs they will get away from the sounder and get by herself. We’ve got a sow at our club that’s got 3 around 2 weeks old.

Old timers say a pig is pregnant 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days, around 104 days... and they will breed back within 2 weeks of birthing.

They breed a lot and anytime of the year .
