How did ya find woody’s?

Like the title says, how did you find this place? In the beginning, if you don’t know, it was called woodys campfire.

I stumbled on it by pure accident, while searching the early inter webs for land to lease, or a club to join. This forum popped up, I didn’t know what a forum even was, but it prompted me to sign up. I sat at an old desk top computer, and pondered a forum name. I set there for what seemed like hours, trying to come up with something original. How I got to Havana dude is beyond me. I’ve been here a long time, member number is like 156. Those before me were mostly founders and creators. I claim none of that, just fortunate to have found it when I did. There was a long stretch of years, that I did not go one single day without checking in. So, just curious, how did you find this awesome place?

Same as you pretty much-Was searching for places to hunt and stumbled across the forum that way. Lurked a for a little bit, then joined to message about a potential club opening at the time. Been here ever since…Only social platform I frequent pretty much on the daily.
As far as the screen name, it’s just one I’ve always used during that time in my life including for personal email addresses-Nothing really unique about it. Just from the time when I customized vehicles-although most folks get confused when I spell it out thinking my name starts with a G instead of J-even after I provided them with my name & spelled it out, lol.

I joined while fishing a trail tournament to learn about other lakes. The fishing section became to commercial so I moved to the fire.
It is the most interesting place as growing up you thought you were a group of outdoorsmen. This forum allows people to show the two sides to the outdoors that I never knew existed before.
Brown and down vs wall hanger, throw back vs eat, cutting edge equipment vs hand made, throw in some cliques and you just gotta sign in to see what’s next.

I shot a buck I wanted to enter into the truck buck contest in 2008. I stumbled into the forum shortly after that and started an account.

I have no recollection at all how I found Woody's. But I'm glad I did since I had the opportunity to meet him and hunt hogs on his place near Augusta. When it became GON.com I was one of the first to move over. My screen name comes from having owned property in Taliaferro (pronounced Toliver) County at the time. Even though I sold it years ago, I see no point in changing names now. I originally tried to do something like GONhunting or GONfishing but the algorithm wouldn't allow anything with those three letters in it be a screen name.

I was web searching something about the Pope and found a post from @crackerdave who was "Rangerdave" at the time so I joined so we could have a spirited discussion about the Pope.

I looked at some of the forums and decided to stay. That was in 2007 and been on here almost every day except for an extended hospital stay in 2018.

My screen name came from the 7MM Remington Magnum, also known in gun circles as "Remington's Big Seven".

That's my favorite all around centerfire cartridge for North America so I chose that.

I was searching something about flintlock rifles and it came up as a discussion thread here. That was back in 2005. Joined up and been here ever since. My screen name is what I shot at the time and type of powder I used, 2F powder in my flintlock, "fflintlock".
This is my only social media outlet. Met a lot of good and interesting people here.

I was looking for a source of deer antlers for the knives I was making when I came across Woody`s Campfire. I joined in April 2005, member #2602. Nicodemus had been my nickname all my life so I just used it. Three months after joining Handgunner and JT invited to me to become a Moderator. I told them I needed time to think about it, because at the time I knew nothing about a computer. A year later I accepted the position and been here ever since. Met some good folks here, and some characters. Good place.

I was a member of the GON web-board in the late 90s. In early 2001 the board was becoming unstable. Woody Coffee decided to create his own website mainly to promote his taxidermy business. He asked a few people (including me) to join in.
Woodys Campfire started in March 2001. Things have really grown since those days.

I was commuting from AR to GA a couple weeks a month for work. As my job grew, I decided to relocate. I was searching for GA hunting and fishing info and found this place. Nic invited me to be a Mod a while back. Elfiii asked me to help with admin stuff last year. It’s been an interesting journey. I’ve learned much and made good friends on the board.

It's been so long I can't remember for sure but I think I started out in 2005 on the now defunct GON Network site and I kept hearing about this other place that was more laid back and not nearly as "political".

About a year after I signed up here I got invited suckered into the moderation staff. About a year after that Jim and Delton made me an Admin (at gunpoint). I been shootin' back at erryboty ever since because of that.

I've made a lot of friends on here and learned a lot and I owe much of my success in the woods and on the water to countless members on this message board who have imparted their knowledge over the years. Even arguing about the best caliber brings knowledge to the forefront and that's what keeps me here along with the fellowship.

I've checked out other hunting and fishing forums over the years but none of them rise to this one. It's the people that make the difference and I'm glad to be here with my 112,716 closest personal friends. Some a y'all just need to read the rules every now and then and cut us mods some slack. :bounce::rockon:

For those of you who never got the chance to meet Woodrow Wilson Coffee in person I can promise you he was the very tip top. Everybody was his life long friend the minute he met you and shook your hand. The mount he did for me is one of my prized possessions because it reminds me of him every day.

I started here just looking for huntin info and at the time was huntin and wandering the mountains a good bit. Found a bunch of good folks willing to help out. As the years rolled on i got more involved in farmin projects and have found this site to be a great resource for growing things as well. Now i spend a good amount of time debatin ideas right down to the very last drop in the bottom of the bottle as many of yall are well aware im sure. As far as my name goes that should be easy! I love to be outside and my life revolves around that. This place is beyond words great. Like hangin out with a large group of friends more than social media. Its the "good old style internet" in the modern trash heap of the online world, and i am very glad to be part of it.
