If You Had Your Choice

That would be a problem, I went in May and it was just cool enough for a light coat. Might have to change to early spring rather than summer. I’m sure you’d agree that the scenery there is truly spectacular.

I always visited the West Yellowstone/Idaho/Wyoming area , usually flew into Jackson Hole and drove up to West Yellowstone, drove around a few times and went as far up as Bozeman riding around, I absolutely love that whole area, and gave serious thought to moving out there in the early 2000's, even had a job lined up had I decided to go. I think I've gone out there on 4 or 5 day mini vacations a total of 6 times

Many folks will not go anywhere without their dog. You would be surprised how many folks go boating here on the NC coast with their dog along with them. Lots of folks traveling the Intracoastal Waterway on sailboats have dogs along with them also. Some even carry their dog to a doctors office with them.
We went to jekyll island few weeks back and wife and i talked about how many folks were walking around with dogs, sitting on beach etc. We said we would bout soon have a child to take care of as a dog. One doodle who owner didnt have leashed came running out of umbrella and chairs and was very aggresive to guy carrying his child on beach. He handled it much better than i could have. Same doodle took a crap in little less than knee deep and lady ran got a bag and thought she could get it up lol. 2 miniature dobermans were left in room on same floor each morning would be yipping when we would pass by

I will take a dog anytime with me instead of a child. Most dogs are better behaved than lots of kids are this day and time. On our beaches here dogs are supposed to be on a leash but many are not. And the law says you will clean up behind your dog if it poops on the beach, many don't do that either. Like I said b4, I'll take a dog over a human with me especially when I am out and about in the woods, I couldn't even imagine taking a whining small child out there. Of course many dogs have not had any or very little training either anyone who would let an aggressive dog run loose on the beach or anywhere else just shows me what kind of human being the dog has as a master.

I kinda figure you will be waiting a very long time for that boat to come and get you if ever.

That`s where I almost went in 1974. Had the info from the state, had the area all mapped out, was gonna find a place along the Chandalar River 150 miles or so above Fairbanks. And let my Mother talk me out of it.
The first year I was married, International Falls, MN was giving away 50 acre homesteads to anyone willing to 'improve' the land. I did the same and was ready to go. New wife said "by yourself?"

My current significant other would be on that offer like white on rice.

My first two years of college, I worked at summer camps in northern Wisconsin teaching bushcraft and taking kids of canoe trips in the Boundary Waters. Longest was 15 days, with 20-ish miles of paddling each day. Started to wear on you after a bit, but if I was solo, pretty sure I could hack it for a month.

I'd join you. I can bring my own AR and fishing gear.

In your original post you asked where we would go. My answer would be the Apalachicola National Forest along the east side of the river.

I'm going with him. ^ :bounce:

No one knows but us just how much I would enjoy camping out for a couple of days and nights on the shell banks in Winyah Bay SC like the Wife and I used to do. But that ain't never gonna happen again on this Earth for us.

Rest assured I would have my cast net and seine. Between the shrimp, oysters, clams, scallops, mullet, specks, reds, flounder, sheephead, croakers, crabs, small game, turkeys, deer, hogs, and plant life, if you go hungry, you have no one to blame but yourself. :)

Every 3 or 4 months I'll bring flour, coffee, and likker to trade for shrimp, oysters, and since I've never had any maybe gator tail.

We had gator tail a few days ago for supper, the grocery store near us sells it here. When we lived in SC we bought if from the Wildlife people there for 5 bucks per pound, its delicious deep fat fried.

For me, it would be near the Grand Tetons. That is truly God’s Country. I’d probably leave when the first Grizzly was seen!
