I remember when copper pennies actually were made of copper. And nickels were made from real nickel.
I regret not saving silver certificants when I could. Or putting away silver coins. Should have turned in my paper bills for gold when you still could.

If the date on a penny is 1983 or later, it is made of 97.5% zinc and plated with a thin copper coating.

Wow! I didn't know that. Interesting.

Used to be, banks kept a certain amount of gold to cover currency the bank issued. Not worth the time to rob a bank anymore. Not worth it to counterfeit paper money anymore.

You used to be able to go get a few rolls of half-dollars at the bank and usually find one or two that were pre-1964. Those days are gone, too.

I am old too, but it's slower for dumb people
