Live From The Tree
18 years strong…and we’re off!

My position change last year at work has literally been a trade my soul to the devil when it comes to deer hunting so this year will be an abbreviated version. I should never complain because I still get a massive amount of time off and have a great work/life balance, but it’s a change and it’s messed with my head since last august. For 16 years our run lasted about 8 weeks. Nowadays it may last the same timeframe, but it will be with me running back and forth to work so what do ya do???

Also as Bubba and John get wayyyy over the hill they are posting live less and less these days, so again what do ya do?

We finally gave up the very cool and entertaining farm in N Missouri because of the nutcase of a landowner and all the family that was slinging lead while we were there. So we’ve made our homebase in southern IL on an 1800 acre, 10 member farm that hunts huge and is absolutely loaded with deer including hopefully a few big boy shooter bucks. We hunted it some last year and are just now figuring it out but will need many more years. This farm is 70 miles from the house and will allow me some flexibility with my work schedule. We are staying in campers at a campground about 3 miles from the property and have decent service at the camper, but half butted service at the property with some stands that have zero service. We will do what we can.

On Nov 5 we load up and head back to KS, my favorite whitetail state. Yet again the horseshoes are dug in deep and we somehow have pulled tags every year we’ve applied. No idea how many years straight but we know it aint gonna last. We will be with Steve Hall and family at Kansas Farmland Outfitters for the umpteenth year in a row. Many of you have been out with Steve and done well over the years…he definitely has the bucks along with working his booty off all year to make it as comfy as possible and to maybe kinda sorta hopefully give us the opportunity to see a giant or 3…maybe even sling an arrow. John killed a 60s buck last year and Bubba killed an old mature buck. We will be there from 1 day to 2 weeks depending on killing out. While there I will take part of Thu and Fri off to get work done on the laptop but will be daylight to dark the rest of the time.

From there we will be back to IL in time for the 3 day gun season and then Thanksgiving and so on and so on and so on.

Like usual there will be many highs and lows (always hope for a few more highs) with a few trips to the casino and messican restaurants, a few campfires and several sweet and sexy plates of food and fine fine fine adult beverages all the while just trying to enjoy what we all know can end any day.

Also know that ALL of you are welcome to join in anytime no matter whether you are hunting or fishing or working or recooping in the recliner. Doesnt matter, the more the happier. Bring it!

Gonna be a good season!

See y’all in the am

I’m Live!

I’m in a ladder tucked into a cedar in the hidden corner of a cut bean field with a tight crossing to my right in a low spot between fields. I’ve never hunted here and haven’t had a good buck on cam here yet either, but it’s promising for sure.

It’s 47 with a very light N breeze touching the back of my right ear. This is the best morning for the next week with a heat wave rolling in.

20 mins until light.

Y’all make sumn happen!

It’s breaking light yet again.

Looks like it’s gonna be an incredible morning to be in a tree.

Well except for the deer behind me blowing. Oh and the one to my right blowing :sneaky: Neither have my wind but they ain’t liking something.

Come on ladies slide over this way

Probably be a short hunt this morning. Have to make a run to town for supplies and get the camper set up. Bubba and John will be in either later today or tomorrow. I’m hunting until Wednesday and then back to work to close the month out.

Course hopefully I get covered up in deer and have blood trails going in all directions and all of that will be put on the back burner
