Term is much cheaper, but not guaranteed to be there when you need it.

Both my parents outlived coverage.

Both my parents outlived coverage.

My FIL had a serious heart condition and a rather substantial ($50,000-ish) term policy that expired on his 65th birthday. You guessed it, he died at age 65 years and 5 months.

Luckily my MIL lived to 91 and made it okay without needing the money.
