Been digging taters for about a week. Cutting collards too. Got cabbages that'll be ready in a couple weeks. Tomatoes about a foot high. Watermelons about a week away from running. Got sweet corn, silver queen and peaches and cream, about a foot high and some I just planted. Planted squash and zucchini yesterday. About a week out on okra. I put some horse manure under my tomatoes and watermelons 2 years ago. Don't know what was in that stuff but all my plants with that manure under them went to heaven

I use to pick up leaves-grass clippings and mulch at peoples house and put it in my garden , that was a No! No! I picked up something that killed my maters evey year that's why I went to hay-bales 5 years ago:eek:
Probably the grass clippings, I won’t use any clippings where people use a yard spraying service. I mulch my whole garden every year around the plants and middles then plow it under after.

While we’re on tomatoes, I’m tired of using cages, take up to much room in my small plot. Growing up we used to drive stakes around our tomatoes and tie them up with cloth strips. Back then we just planted Rutgers, came in a bundle wrapped in paper. They didn’t grow as tall as all the varieties we have now. Anyone use other methods?

I use a length of weld wire fencing run down the row, plant the maters along it, and tie em up as they grow
