I'm a MetroATL dweller. We lock and nail everything down. Cars overnight are in the garage not out in the driveway. I had one break in once at an prior home, walked in to the sound of them running out the back and down the back deck stairs. Only thing taken was a pizza from the fridge and they'd run water in the kitchen sink. I've always suspected they filled up a jug for some reason. There were a few game system items on the ground in the back yard though.
That was right when I was moving in (it was a rental). I figured someone had a key because it was all locked when I left, and nothing had been busted getting in. I had a locksmith there that night and sent the invoice to the landlord along with a copy of the police report and request for reimbursement, which I received.
I bought flip locks to mount on the doors of my current house but have not yet installed them. One day I'll not be lazy and will do it.
