Found this in my woods….

Old buck had a rough time over the last few years. He was shot in the back and had a visible dip in his back. We never saw him other than on camera but we would have let him walk. He was a survivor till now. Last saw on camera on the 8th. Found him yesterday while walking the dog.

Sometimes the only one that deserves to take an old warrior out is nature itself.

He looks like he lived a long and hopefully good life with many offspring. He deserved to live it out till the end.

Can only hope, based upon picture, that he just eased up beside tree...drew his legs under him....and took his final nap.

He looked pretty rough in that trail cam picture . As others said , maybe that was his last resting spot . Nature can be cruel though

Hate to see the old warrior go. If you have the opportunity you might want to pull the lower jaw bone and have aged by a couple of biologists. Be interesting to know exactly how old he was.

I have the head in a fire ant bed to let then work on it for a while. Gonna try my first European mount.
