North carolina camping rules

What are North Carolina camping rules and where can I find them? I want to camp without reservations either in a designated spot or just pitch a tent in the woods where I'm allowed to. Would be nice if it was like Georgia where you can pitch a tent for free on a WMA either on a designated camp spot or anywhere.

There are no "NC rules" for camping, it depends on what type of land you're on. On most of the Pisgah and Nantahala national forests, you can camp almost anywhere for free with almost no restrictions. Most state parks don't allow camping outside the campgrounds, nor do many of the non-federal game lands. GSMNP only allows camping in designated spots by reservation only. In most of the wilderness areas, you can camp about anywhere, but can't have a fire.
Just go to the website for the land you want to camp on- ie Nantahala national forest, whatever, and they will have the rules.
