I find it kind of interesting when people talk about how Christmas is getting "too commercialized." One of the characters in Miracle on 34th Street complained in the movie about this same thing and it came out in 1947.

Yeah,it's been going on a while.
Every since tv was invented,at least.

We quit gifts 30 years ago. Now it's just family, friends and food. Mix in an early church service, a huge brunch, football game, a little alcohol, and a nap and everyone enjoys

Curios as to why no gifts?

^^^^^ It had gotten to a point where all 4 kids in the family were just buying to buy. Everyone was successful and making good money so we all just agreed to put the financial emphasis on food, drink and just being together. Worked out great.
