RE:What Calibers Do You Use To Deer Hunt Besides The More Popular One's?

Besides the usual 30-30, 30/06,308,270, 243, etc what calibers do you deer hunt with?

Also, if you shoot a lever action, some good calibers there.

Since 2008, I've killed bucks with .338 Fed (M77 Hawkeye), 9.3x62 (CZ550), .375 Win (Marlin), .356 Win (M336ER), .444 Marlin (Marlin .444S), .444 Marlin (Marlin .444P), .375 Win (2nd Marlin .375), .35 Whelen (Rem M750 Carbine), .444 Marlin (2nd .444P), .450 Marlin (1895M), and .300RCM (M77 Hawkeye)

Before 2012 I used a few oddballs to kill deer as well. All were bucks, but one. I also used the .257 (M77), 7x57 (Ruger #1A), 8x57 (M700C and a doe), .300 Savage (M99), .300SAUM(M673 for sale now on GON), .358 (BLR) and .350RM (M673)

I've had all the Mausers.

The only one I have left is
a very nice 1891 in 7.65 Argentine.

I love the Mausers. Just had to many guns
and sold some when I finally figured that out.

Couldn't let the 7.65 Argentine go.

It is the nicest rifle of that era I have ever seen
or owned. That's saying a LOT.

I want to pickup a rifle in 6.5x55 Sweed one of these days. The more I read about that caliber the more I like it.

I like them fast and accurate.....25-06, .257WBY, 257STW, 28Nosler, .300WinMag, .300Ultra and 8mmRem Mag
I shoot a heavy for caliber Berger bullet out of every one of them too.

I actually bought a Ruger Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor this year also and have had a ton of fun with that little dude!! Way too accurate to be a $400 rifle!!!

Odd rounds that I've shot deer with

7x30waters
.257 Roberts

More main stream, .300wby, 7RUM, .25/06

I'm looking for a .338 federal, that dude seems like a big bark from a small short action rifle. 200gr Fusions should be wicked out of it.

.338 Fed is a great cartridge. Mine loved the 200gr Fusion loading. Pretty interesting to think that that 200gr Fusion load is actually a bit better at muzzle and downrange than the Remington 200gr load for the .35 Whelen at 2700 FPS V 2675 for the Whelen.

7.62x39, .300Winmag, .54 are a few kind of unusual ones I hunt with nowadays. Killed one with a .22LR back in the day (yes, it was legal in NC.)

6.5x55, 7x57, 30-06ai, 9.3x57, 9.3x62, 25-06,280, 284.

I’m thinking another 284 or a 35 whelen might be in the works. The 30-06ai is gonna get rebarreled and I can’t decide what I want to do with it. Deciding between a plain -06, a 35 whelen or a 284. Probably going to send it to Shaw before long.

Winchester model 1907 in .351SL. My daddy's uncle purchased it new. Original ammo can be expensive when you can find it, but luckly there are several companies loading new stuff but it ain't cheap either.

I bought one off an ol' boy would needed a dollar a couple years back that was made in 1981. Took off the see-through mounts, and replaced them with Weaver quad rings and topped it with a Nikon Prostaff. Hornady leverevolutions are bad medicine in that thing for deer.

22LR, 222, 223, 257 Roberts, 6.5x55, 270, 7/08, 7 mag, 308, 3006, 30 Super, 300 Win mag, 300 Jarrett, 300 RUM, 338 Win mag, 33 WCF, 45/70. 45 ACP, 10mm, 44 mag pistols. 45, 50, 54 cal ml’s. Recurve and compound bows.

My all time favorite is my Jarrett 280 Ackley Improved. Hands down the most accurate rifle I’ve ever held. Once the safety is flicked off, the deer is dead every time, whether they know it or not.

My go to is a 22 hornet. That thing is a tack driver. Savage bolt made in the 50tys. It has a 22” barrel. That little center fire can put them down. I don’t shoot out past 150 yds with it.
Cool weapon.
