What's your budget and what range do you plan on shooting out to?

Tough to be wrong with a Leupold 3-9. You'll be good to 300 yards or a bit more. The specific model I'd suggest would be the VX-R in 3-9×40.

As good as it gets in very low light and with the Firedot Duplex turned up properly in full light, very fast to get on target.

Good luck with that nice new rifle!

Look at a Vx3i in 2-8 x 36mm. Nice compact scope that you can mount very low and all you need for 200 yards. 2X is nice in low light and thick brush; good match for the BAR. I have an older model on my BPR .308 and its a natural fit.

I am going to replace my 1-4x with this scope on my #1 45-70 when I scrape up $$.

I think 3x-9x is a good power range for a hunting rifle scope.

But, the 7mm-08 is a capable long-range round.

If you were considering doing really long range shots, 350+ yards, I'd do some practicing with that scope cranked up to 9X. If you aren't getting groups as tight as you'd like, or you just wish the target were bigger, then order another scope with 12X or 14X magnification.

I have a 3.5-10x45mm Bushnell with a 4-plex reticule on my 30-06 Safari BAR that is at least 30 years old and never had an issue with it. My longest kill shot was at 285 yds. I'm just saying that Bushnell make very good scopes that are crystal clear. I did buy a Leopold 3-9x40mm Rifleman (?) scope two years ago for my AR-5.56 and returned it because it was to grainy when looking through it.

I was in Dick's tonight at the Mall of Georgia and they had a Bushnell 3-9x40mm on sale for $149.99. It has a 4-Plex reticule and is crystal clear all the way out to the edges of the lens. If I needed one I would have bought one.

Feature Bushnell’s new No Questions Asked Lifetime Warranty.

PS: Midwayusa has it for $134.99, but is out of stock. Maybe Dick's will match the price?
