Average truck payment is nearing $1000

I bought a new F150 Lariat (2WD) in 2007 for $22,000, out the door.

Same truck today is $70,000. Almost as much as my first house.

Yes but please tell me you understand this concept. No matter what prices were in 1986 or 2012 surely you can buy a 2005 model truck for less than a 2023 model truck.
I tried driving a worn out junk truck 80 miles round trip to work for a couple years. It cost me more to keep it going than a truck payment. Not to mention the constant aggravation of being broke down on the side of the road.

I buy vehicles that hold their value. I have offers on the 2012 trail team for 38k. I paid $36 cash new.
Made money on the Porsche, lost very little on the corvette and don’t plan on losing much on the low Number color TRD pro.
My concept is much different than the rag it and bag it.

Super Nice, I bought the direct competitor TRD pro.
They're almost the same truck. I like it so far. Tough lil rig, big V6, transmission cooler, wrapped in skid plates, heavy-duty everything, locking differential, AC converter, about 7k towing capacity.

I have a 2000 grand Cherokee 4.0 straight six with 170,000 that I planned putting a lot more miles on yet. I don't go many places any more, it'll probably last till I die. I don't mind spending a few bucks on it every now and then to keep it going.

My fear is that if young people can’t afford to buy houses and cars they won’t start families or build businesses.
I don't see how anybody affords to buy a house nowadays. I'd sure hate to be starting out again in this economy.

When you drive it 80 miles a day, it becomes so pretty fast. I've tried the run it til it falls apart at 300k method. Lately, I trade when it's getting close to 100k and get a good trade-in. This is the last new one I will ever buy, I'd say. I can retire in three years with a truck with fairly low miles and is half paid off. It will last me forever if I'm not making that commute. I also don't have a mortgage payment, or I couldn't afford it.

Like i said just depends. I bet even you with your new truck will admit most folks just buy stuff to impress their neighbors. Long commute and high travel miles could be a reason to buy new. But you didnt get one of these $1k a month payments neither.

Saw a nice F150 a bit ago for $3500.

Of course it was 30 years old. That doesn’t really scare me though.

Haven’t had a truck payment in a long time. But sure feel bad for the young folks making under $30k like I did for close to two decades.

It’s almost like we’re being destroyed from within?! Nah that’s all conspiracy.

That's what I don't understand - where is all this money coming from? I was reading yesterday that the average new vehicle payment is $800. Five or especially ten years ago that was a rent or mortgage payment.

Yet I see these young folks all the time driving $$$$ vehicles. Where does that money come from? I know some of them are making bank but I also know they all aren't. It makes no sense.
