Be careful around your corn piles!

this big boy was nestled under some leaves waiting on a squirrel and I would’ve stepped on him if my hunting buddy wasn’t with me and saw him first. I dumped corn all around him and he never rattled. I was two steps from him walking right to him and I had been keeping an eye out but this one was hid better than any I’ve ever seen. I got lucky with this one but I think I’ll wear snake chaps from now on when I go to feed

I've come across 5 so far this year (all canebrakes) on my place. We have diamondbacks too but haven't seen any this year as of now.

Yep. 3 wks ago at one of my feeders. Somehow made a nest to hide in. My wife asked me if I was taking my snake boots. I said nope I won’t need them. Only going to fill feeders and it’s clear ground. I can see everything. So I thought. Of course , once I told her what happened it was “I told you so” “when are you going to listen to me” I will say, this time and only this time, she was right. Puts those boots and chaps on fellas

Must be that time of year. We had a Copperhead inside the back yard fence last night when the dogs went out just before bedtime. I got the through the air voice mail from the Mrs. and responded as quickly as I could but we had 3 dogs hit before I could get there. It was a medium sized Copperhead and Benadryl helped but I've got some funny looking and ill feeling dogs today.

I hate to say it but the snake did not survive. Generally I relocate snakes but here on the hill we have way too many dogs and in the dark I didn't want to chance it.

Well since I’ve seen a big timber rattler on my trail camera (where I was feeding when I saw this one) I assumed it was the same one and he didn’t make it either lol. I’ve never had one that close to me without me seeing him first... 3 weeks ago it was a cottonmouth in the same bottom about 50 yards from this one … this is Taylor county by the way. The cottonmouth was much more aggressive but not nearly as big.

Glad you didn’t step on it ! Every time I’m near a feeder I’m extra cautious . I’ve killed my share but have learned to like and respect them especially when I’m in their home .

I think I may have heard that “through the air voicemail “ at my place……can’t say I blame you for eliminating the threat!

Them snakes havent kept me out of the woods, but the heat has surely been unmotivating! Y’all be careful out there!

My wife’s hiking social media friends have reported seeing a lot more snakes and bears lately and she’s skeered and won’t even go!

I've seen 3 timbers in my yard this year and ran over one with the tractor about a week ago(didn't see it until it was too late). My lab got bit on the neck by one and had another laying in the flower bed next to the back steps. Until this year I had only seen 3 total in 10 years of owning the property.

That’s my fear when our mutts go out at night. I don’t give it much thought in the cool months.

Glad you saw him I had a close call last year weed eating around my feeder this weekend. He was perfectly hid in some small sweetgum sapling.

I wish people would leave all snakes alone. Once we push certain species to the point of near extinction we’ll be left with a gap in the big scheme of things. Everyone is worked up about coyotes now that their filling the gap we created by eliminating the red wolfs. Who knows what type of invasive species
would fill the snake gap.

I hear ya but I’m not taking the chance seeing as I take my kids hunting and to feed the deer. If one is around the area I frequent then he’s getting removed. Via 22lr :shoot:
