Hearing protection

What do you guys use for hearing protection/enhancement while hunting? As I get older, I've noticed that my hearing doesn't seem as good as it used to. I don't really like muffs because they make it hard for me to get a good cheek weld.

I bought a pair of the above linked muffs to use for the first time this year.

Been using regular ear plugs until now.

I've been wearing the Howard Leight muffs for the last several years. After working in Public Safety for over 20 years, I've had a bit of hearing loss so the electronic muffs really help me hear better in the woods.

I keep foam plugs wedged in beneath the scope/mount. In a more controlled doe shooting type setting I always take the time to place them in my ears prior to the shot. But... if something happens quick I'm shooting first.

I wear some I can hear normal with the entire time during a dove shoot though.

Do you loose sense of direction that sound comes from with the enhanced solutions?
A little bit. It’s hard to tell which way far off turkey is gobbling from. Closer it’s easier. It lets you know that something is walking and pay attention before your ears could hear it. Well worth it to me.
