Reel repair

Took a penn 330 to Nutter reel repair in White Ga. When I picked it up they told me they did the best they could and could not ever get a worm gear. $40 later took the reel home to find out the level line didn’t work. A quick google search and found plenty of worm gears. When I confronted Nutter they said they did not have time to search for parts. Isn’t that part of fixing a reel. Anyhow does anyone know of a other place that works reels?

I took a stradic ci4 1000 reel up there a few years back got it back fully repaired after leaving it with them for over a year on accident. Was surprised they didnt just sell it! Good folks. They told me when I dropped it off it would take a month or two for parts and repairs so seems like something must have changed in quality of service if hes not willing to order your parts and fix your reel... what did you pay for??? Anyway the only other place I know is http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ , a reputable sponsor on bass resource. You will have to send it off and wait but hey at least you dont have to drive to White for no reason at all?

The tackle trap is great in Boaz Alabama, I get daiwa parts from them when I tweak on my reels. Unless it's under warranty I'd send it to them.

They are good people they gave me $20 back. But should tell people upfront they got their one place to order parts and if they don’t have it too bad.

Rick knows Penn's. I had a 330 that was pretty jacked up! Made me happy!

I tried them once. Left a reel with them for a year. "Can't get parts" was the story.

I've called them a few times since then for other things. Can't get parts is the usual story.

Send your CI4 back to Shimano next time. With their warranty service they fixed two of mine for $20 each.

I repair my own. I had a problem with a baitcaster and could find no reel repair locally so I decided to learn a little and do my own. It's worked out pretty good too and it's not that hard to learn.

These are just a couple of the many places to get parts.
And this is a forum where you can learn a lot about reel repair.

You are right - if you take the time to learn, it's not hard. For years I could work on the old round Ambassadors. It took a little fiddling around to learn about the Shimano type casting reels. But, I did it. Not a bad idea to take cell phone pictures at different stages of disassembly, so you get it back together the right way.

Here's a valuable tip I wish someone had given me. When taking apart a modern baitcaster, all the screws are out and you ready to separate the two sides, lay it down on the handles and gently work the top side off the main shaft. This keeps all the washers, springs and drag washers in their proper place on the shaft. If you place it handle up and take it apart all that stuff just falls off. It takes a lot of patience to get all back right.

The Tackle Trap in Boaz AL is great. I will not do business with Nutters after a bad experience with them "fixing" my trolling motor and getting ****ed at me when I sent it back because it still didn't work. By the way, I was very nice about it. The crotchety man yelled "I already worked on this trolling motor once". LOL
