Which Mini-Dv to buy?

My brother and I are going to purchase a new camcorder for my father for Christmas. He has an old analog that has served him well in the past but the thing has seen its better days.

I have been doing research on the different models but I can't decided on which one to buy.

Price range is under $400.

Sony, Canon, Panosonic, Samsung?????????? :

but check out the Sony HC30 - great little camera.

Dean I actually found one for under $400 at BestBuy Consumer reports gave that one a good review.
