Why are some Christians superstitious?

Traditions yes, but superstitions? What made me think of this was the ones for today's New Year's Day.
Not just that but if we go back a few eras within our own families, it seems that some of those Christian folks of yesteryear were somewhat superstitious.
I know I was as a child.
Then say you got a Cross or Rosary in your car. Eventually you remove it and have an accident. You might think removing the Cross or Rosary was the reason.

Then in some Christian communities of various ethnicity, these superstitions may be even more pronounced. Seems like localities have a lot to do with it as well.
