Thought I’d share... started picking up parts 3 years ago. After 2020 it was nearly impossible to get other parts. Finally an upper became available this past August. Spendy but I grabbed it - a stainless 22” barrel in 6.5CM.
After grabbing a BCG and charging handle, I slapped it all together. This build was pretty comparable to AR15 builds and intuitive.
I had a few scopes that I could use but got a deal on an Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50, FFP/mil ($270). I’ve been a SFP/MOA guy for 30-some years and also never had an illuminated reticle. Why not? Picked up a 30 mm scope mount from AP and it’s all set.
Finally got to the range yesterday. Factory bulk ammo, Hornady American Gunner 140 gr BTHP. Two shots to zero, then a 1.1MOA group with next three. Only two complaints on my setup: I had the scope a little too far forward and the zero stop had me at about 1.2 mils high (that three shot group was a holdover). The only complaint on the equipment was the trigger...
I fixed the scope mount and zero stop this morning and swapped the trigger for one of the LaRue MBT on sale for $99. They confirmed it’s good for the 308 platform. Two-stage, 2.5 lb on second is very nice. Just over 13 lbs empty, it’ll ring in at about 14 lbs with a loaded 10 round magazine.
Probably a $1500 project for something I didn’t really need, but Let’s Go Brandon!
More later once I try some reloads.
