ATVs allowed on roads?

Nicks point is.
They are doing it just fine now. Now you want it regulated. We don’t want to have to do that for our little commutes ! Your wanting to create more laws for us to have to do.
Just saying. Our point of view.
It's not about regulation. It's about allowing them on the road legally. Nothing off road changes.

Put thousand of miles on atvs in my life, and have ridden with folks who have put more than that.....have never experienced any tire problem other than your typical nail every now and then.
On taking curves on the road or making right angle turns, theres a very marginal amount of tire slip on solid axles. On u-turns, tire slip is noticeable but usually not problematic. I've never known anyone to crash due to it, no matter the speed.

We ride on the back roads some. Country paved. We fine. You want to Crete new laws. Get insurance. Tag.
We feel we have enough.
Oh getting a tag then all that tax in Ga like a car.
We just fine and don’t want the hassle or cost.

About 18 years ago, I took a Polaris sport 400 frame and mounted a Suzuki katana 600 engine on it. I transferred all the Suzuki electrics and controls. Even mounted the turn signals.
The biggest obstacle I encountered was the final drive.... the katana engine has the left side chain drive, the Polaris is right side. By flipping the axle, that was solved but they used different chain sizes. I contacted Sprocket Specialists and had them made a sprocket to fit the axle but using the katana chain size.
Though my intent was solely drag racing, and it did very well at it, I also checked to see if I could get it registered for the street. All safety features were met or exceeded but registration was refused because of no provisions in the law

No. If you ride off road, nothing changes. If you want to ride on the street, then tags and insurance applies. No different than a dual sport motorcycle. Off road use, nothing to do. Street use, tags and insurance after making it street safe

When I first moved back home, I sitting at the table at the back of the house, moma starts yelling come look there's a guy with a 4 wheeler pulling a boat going down the road. Without even looking out the window I told her who it was and where he was going. Another guy I know used to go to Big Gun to get his beer or liker I guess.

Live in the city??
No. Both my Fl house and my Ga Cabin are rural.
In Fl. the locals are ok to ride on dirt unless the county passes an ordinance not to. Our county is 4wheeler friendly.
In Ga you don't really need a tagged vehicle unless you are going in town.
I'm just saying that if you look at all of the involved things in ATV's on the hard road you need a better designed and equipped version to be as safe as a motorcycle.

That's why I started this thread... I know what safety features must be in place and am aware of a few design changes that should be made.
If those are met, what other things should be considered, how people would accept them on the road, and what the market would want?

Again. We fine like we are. No one bothers us right now. We may go up and down a road a few miles out here. We don’t want the city suburban life brought to us.
Argue all u want. 4 wheelers are off road and we use as a means to get around. Simple life. Up down a back country road a bit and we have no problem.
We go to town we get in a street vehicle !

They have small jeeps. Things made. 3 wheel motorcycles.
Get one.

Sounds like you are in this for the money. As stated, we`re fine here. And we`ll do as we please. Including the tractors.

Mr kmckinnie here’s a ticket. U rode your 4 wheeler a 1/2 mile up the road to go hunting.
You must trailer it to there with your truck.

Mr kmckinnie u can’t be on this county maintained dirt road. U must trailer it.

I don’t want that.

I dont know how to explain this.... yall think I want to take what you are doing and ban it or tax it. That's far from the case.

Let me try this....

How would you feel about a purpose built, street legal ATV class ?

I used to ride one of these back in the early 80's in FL with just a tag and mirror. Yamadog IT175. That thing bout got me kilt more than once but it sure was a blast to ride on the street...until it rained that is then those knobby tires turned into slicks lol. Those were the days...

Mine was a IT490 back then. Bad enough on a good day, became a kamakazi death machine with the slightest water on pavement.

BANNED LUNATIC FRINGE
I used to pump the tires up and haul tail. The 10 mile radius was mine.
I’d go full blast at 45mph and hit the creek halfway to cool it down. Same as on the way home. If I didn’t cool it off It would overheat and cooling it down took too long before Daddy got home.
Only wore the fronts strictly to and from. Crossing major roads under the bridge. The creek I crossed was placed perfect for a pitstop. Never hurt the honda.

This wasn't mine but an exact duplicate of it. That thing was a wheelie monster.
