Dressed Weight to Live Weight Conversion

I was wondering if anyone had a formula for converting a dressed weight from a deer to a live weight? I don't really want to use something like, " well the guts on my deer usually weigh such and such so I add that much back in."

Any help is appreciated.

Huntindawg,

We weight every deer that comes off our club in Oglethorpe County. Last season we had several deer that we took both the live and dressed weights of and found the factor to be 1.33. For example, if the dressed weight of a deer is 96 lbs., then the live weight is calculated at 128 lbs. (96 x 1.33 = 128).

Hope this helps.

I have a little cloth tape that I got about 10 years ago that has the weight conversions on it. Walmart carried them this past year and I picked up a couple more to keep in the vehicles and my pack. Handy little gadget. I also keep several little tiny tape measures that fit on your keychain. They are great for measuring spreads, beard lengths, spur lengths.
