How much do you “practice”

How often do you shoot your deer rifle?

  • Never, unless shooting at a deer

  • Just to make sure it’s sighted in, then hunting

  • I shoot my deer rifle several times a year

  • I shoot monthly

  • I’m basically a sniper and shoot ALL the time!

Me and my boys shoot our deer rifles a couple of weeks before deer season, mainly to check zero. We don’t hunt anywhere that a shot would be over 100 yds., so we don’t really need sniper knowledge and skill.
We do break out the AR and 22’s every other month or so. Whole heap cheaper to practice and plink with those than deer rifles.
To add, neither of my sons have made a bad shot or lost a deer yet. Rifle sights are hard to control when buck fever kicks in. Another reason for sub 100 yd shots.

7mm RemMag. Shot 4 times to sight in a month ago. 270 yd shot on opening day, seated, using a shooting stick, from the treeline you can see across the field on upper rigth of photo. Lungs and top of heart. 50 yd track. 3rd deer I've shot at 270-300yds. This was only one that didn't DRT.
