That neighbor....

Uh, neighbors. Get somewhere that you don’t have any.

Until then, see my sig line, Chief.

Well thing is, I've got some great neighbors that I would help out anytime, and they would me if I needed them. This one isn't one of them.

The other things is, I can't throw a rock and hit any of their homes. I'm on 9 acres, one across the road directly is on 16, one behind me is on 8. It ain't like I live in a subdivision. My other house that I sold is on 2 acres and adjoins this property, but their great neighbors. One directly across the main road is on 6 acres, and the one to my left is on 5 acres, then more down each of the other roads mostly on 5 or better.

Not to mention I'm 3rd generation living in this Old Farm house that was my Grand parents and was here before any of the others were. Then my parents owned after buying from the rest of the Family members and takin care of my Mamaw til her death. Ain't nobody pushing me out. I'm standing my ground right here til my dying day owning this corner.

That boy won't be borrowing much of nothing from me anymore, and he knows it.

I've figured them 2 out and they know it. Moochers looking for a handout every which way you turn. I talked to the lady with the 6 acres across the main road from me and she said they had the same problem them initially. She had to nip it in the bud because her husband was too generous, loaning them stuff and doing stuff for them.

It all makes sense now, they cut them off and now they think can pull it on me, ain't happenin', but I ain't movin either.

This Ol farm house is the anchor of all of this area that was once my Papaws Farm, I'm here to stay and loud and pround on preserving the History of it.

I have a policy of never loaning tools. I'll do something myself for someone before I loan anything out. Don't trust folks. My dad is the only person that gets to use my tools. That goes for my truck, too. Only folks that drive my truck are me and the feller that puts new tires on her when needed.

Loaned my tractor out to my neighbor, he sheared 3 pins on the bush hog, I could hear him over a 1000 yards away what sounded like grinding stumps !!

He text me the other day wanting to borrow it again, text him back, "you break it, you buy it." He never responded. Tractor has less than 300hrs on it.

My tractor is the one thing I don't loan to anybody. If you're my friend and you need tractor work done, I'll drive.

Never ever loan a chainsaw out. It seems there is some wrinkle in the universe where most folks know how to sharpen the chain on a saw they own, but no one knows how to sharpen a chain on one they dont own.
Even to those who can’t sharpen a saw can go to the saw shop and have a new chain put on it before return. The owner would be more ready to loan it again. The best thing of course is to buy your own.

I agree, chainsaw isn’t something I like to lend out, unless I know the individual very well and they know “what NOT to do with a chainsaw”.

I’ve seen too many people that really don’t know how to handle one properly, much less sharpen it. And yes, I’ve let one bite me once on the knee cap by getting in too big of a hurry and careless once. Just a graze, but took 7 stitches in the blink of an eye when it jumped on me.

You are correct they are able to maim and kill quickly. They are very efficient cutters, wood or flesh. They are also a wonderful tool to make life a lot easier.

X2, I don’t know what I’d do without a couple or 3. I sure wish they didn’t cut ya so raggedy. Stitches didn’t hold up in such a raggedy cut on the knee cap either. Didn’t help I had to go out of town working for about 10 days either.

Kept it clean and bandaged and it turned out all right.

I knew a man who cut one of his biceps nearly in two. Working in a pine top couldn’t keep his footing, fell on the saw someway. Emergency room saved his arm and he made a complete recovery. Scary!!

Wheww, scary stuff.

I knew one that was in the tree business for years, my Aunts brother. I even worked with him as a 2nd job on weekends for extra $ when I was a young whippersnapper. He committed the ultimate sin with a chainsaw and to this day I can’t believe he did it. He was very experienced with many years unscathed for the most part until the day he went against everything he knew to never do with a chainsaw. That was to cut too close to any type of wire or fence. For some reason he decided to take one out about 4-5” in diameter too close to a chain link fence knowing good and well he shouldn’t have.

I can’t remember how many stitches he wound up with, but I know it was in the hundreds and he came close to bleeding out, not to mention the scars he had afterward for the rest of his life and almost lost an eye. Big scar right across his forehead, skipped across his eye socket, down his cheek, to his neck, chest and leg. He told me it happened so fast he didn’t even realize how bad he was cut until he saw all the blood everywhere across his body.

I managed to cut into the toe of my snake boots with a chainsaw. Didn't even know it until I took them off. The good lord stopped me from losing a few toes that day.

I was cuttin about a 20" dia pine one time with a cheap saw and no backup saw. I cut the front wedge cut and got most all the way through the back cut and the crankshaft end on the saw broke loose. That pine sat there on what was left of the hinge for as long as it took me to get another saw (awhile).

My wife worked at a lawn mower shop and other equipment! a guy came in. Said fix this chainsaw. Can’t remember who I borrowed it from. They got on it. Another guy came in. Said I need to buy a chainsaw. Loaned it out. Can’t remember who.??
Small town. Guy got saw back and it was running good again.

A couple of things. First, I hate asking anybody for help. I just do. But if I have to it is just that, help. I’m right there with them and I’ve got my hands on it. To some people the word help seems to mean getting somebody to do it for them. I am willing to help anybody. But I strongly resent having my kindness abused or being conned or taken advantage of in some way. If you need me, I’ll help you. It’s the Christian thing to do and I won’t go any farther with that part of it. But by the same token, if you are just lazy and the type of person who likes to try and get something for nothing and use me as the instrument of that, I will hurt your feelings bad enough that you won’t come back for round two. There is nothing virtuous about letting somebody crap on you and NOBODY craps on me. And if I’m your friend, I’ll do about anything for you because I’m particular about who I get close with.

I’m the same way. I spent my whole life figuring out how to do things by myself simply to avoid asking anyone for help. I don’t like owing anyone anything. There’s 3 people in this world that I will loan anything I own to no questions asked. Other than that, I don’t loan things. Another thing I never understood is the ole, “Hey I bought a grill at Home Depot. Would you mind going with me to get it since you have a truck?” Nope. You shoulda thought about that when you bought it. And Home Depot delivers AND rents trucks. Can I borrow your truck? Will you help me move? The audacity.

I had an incident with a chainsaw while taking down a tree. Chain snapped and one end whipped around the bar. Didnt hurt, but leaked pretty good.

I cleaned the cut with brake cleaner, packed it with bearing grease and wrapped it up with electrical tape and a shop towel. Healed up nice and almost no scar.

?Now I Got One A Them Banner Things
I am glad I live where I do, now mind you we ain't miles back off the road, more like 75 feet. I know exactly 4 of my neighbors, one house is my parents. No one around here ask to borrow anything, causes the we all have a tractor, chainsaw, bush hog, tiller and so forth. Everybody keeps to their self, unless one of us needs help and they kinda just show up without being asked(in a good way).

Since this thread seems to have been derailed to a dangers of chainsaws thread I will say it's probably a good idea to have a tourniquet and first aid kit in your pocket whenever using a chainsaw.
