Are pigs running off the deer.

Just had 40-50 pigs stomp by. This is the first year they have been this far south and they are destroying everything on this ridge. There is always a doe group feeding on this ridge. I see no sign of deer feeding though. Just hogs. Did the pigs run my does off?

Will deer leave the county because hogs are present? No.

Will deer leave the immediate area when hogs move in, yes.

But if the area has food, the deer will return.

On the evening of 12/7/23 I was watching some cut milo, had a dozen deer in the field, hoping they would attract a good buck. Some hogs came in and every deer left the field, but the deer did not leave the farm I hunt on.

Perfectly good deer hunt ruined by hogs. But I ruined one hogs day.

We got hogs and plenty of deer. In fact the further south in the state you go the more hogs and the more deer ya have. Until you hit Florida. Then you get less again.

Pile those hogs up, they are an exotic unwanted non-game species. I certainly won’t judge a fella for leaving a few of them laying. They are so destructive!

I would have but it took me two hours to get to that spot and I have had some good success there.

It probably would not have hurt your hunt. I killed a boar Thanksgiving week then 40 minutes later shot a decent mountain buck. But I understand not wanting to take a chance on messing up your stand. Maybe you can get another crack at the hogs!
