I have been searching the internet lately to buy Hodgdon H4895 powder in the 8 lb. container. I've found several websites offering it for about $250. But when I try to check out there's no option for me to use a my credit card. So I started checking them out and discovered they are probably not legit. So beware.
If anyone knows a source for H4895, please PM me.
Thanks.

When trusted multiple major companies are out of a product and little known oddly named companies have all you want for a much cheaper price it is a sure sign of a rip-off.

I suspect any site offering powder for $250 s suspect, since the Hdgdon site says $410 now..

There are several powders available that would be a substitute for H4895 ..not directly ....but would be workable except for reduced charges...

AA2495, TAC .... others ...

During this shortage.... folks have learned to use not so common powders to keep shooting... some have found powders that work better than the old standbys....

Don't be afraid to look at the other powders

Bullets have become a lot easier to find lately. I have been able to find any and all the primers I want but of course not the price I would like.
Powder is still terrible! Get a list of reliable places like Powder Valley, Midsouth, Grafs, Brownells, Midway and some others and sign up for "Notify Me" when in stock and be ready to jump.

BriarPatch99, thanks for your feed back on alternative powders. I reload for .30-06, 7mm-08, 8 mm Mauser and .35 Remington. Any thoughts on what I may be able to sub for H4895?
Thanks.

Brownells had a decent amount of powder a day or so ago.

Cabelas cancelled my order (that said it was in-stock ) two days after I placed it due it being out of stock. Take what they say about stock with a grain of salt.

You can use Ammoseek for powder and primers too. That is how I found those Ginex primers I posted about earlier. Though, it is always pretty bleak feeling when no matches come up on your search.

Of the cartridges you listed Varget, H4350, H4064, RL15, Big Game, H335 to name only a few.

Unfortunately, Varget, H4350, RL15 are just as unobtainium as H/IMR 4895. I managed to find some Varget at Bass Pro 2 weeks ago and they had some H1000, which another hard to find magnum powder so I got them both.

They are out there.

Just peruse through the various online load data provided by bullet manufacturers such as Nosler, Barnes, and Speer. That will give you a general idea of powders that are compatible.

Hodgdon also has a lot of load data.

Powder is better than it was but I'm still seeing most of the same ones in stock over and over. H335, IMR3031, W748, H110, etc. Been seeing a lot of Accurate powders too.

Lots of the common rifle powders are still scarce as hen's teeth.

I have some IMR 4064 and according to the Hornady Reloading Manual, 9th Edition, 40 grains of IMR 4064 pushes the Hornady 120 gr. V-Max bullet to around 2800 fps. I figure that's plenty enough for Georgia whitetails.
