If a deer can run full speed through the woods at night without breaking their neck, I doubt you are invisible climbing down in the dark. Just makes you feel better cause you can't see them.
I agree most people overthink it. I try and run them off by making some odd circumstance, but I don't really sweat it. If there's a decent buck under, I wait him out. The rest I don't care about.
Although true . A deers vision isn’t the greatest and only see blacks and whites. Depending on the moon light or lack there of. Most likely won’t know exactly what it is. Get down in the day light and see how fast they run. Darkness does side in being stealthy. Not always but a good bit of the time. I use to throw rocks at ‘‘em but got tired of carrying them.Deer can see, hear, and smell in the dark.
Probably helps break up the sound of a two footed human walking cadenceSince I started using a walking stick several years ago I`ve found out that I can get a lot closer to deer as I`m slipping through the woods and swamp than I used to. I don`t know if they`re confused as to what they are seeing or what, but it has made a real difference in how close they allow me to get to them both day and night.

They can see plenty fine enough in the dark. Better than me anyways.Although true . A deers vision isn’t the greatest and only see blacks and whites. Depending on the moon light or lack there of. I really think its the foot noise. Just keeps em from gettin spooky quite as far off. Maybe the same thing applies with this day versus night behavior.Since I started using a walking stick several years ago I`ve found out that I can get a lot closer to deer as I`m slipping through the woods and swamp than I used to. Well, thats still better than me i suppose. If i took off runnin through the woods at night i wouldnt be makin sound for long. Maybe a few feet at best. Moon depending.I know they can see some in the dark, how good I don`t know. I do know that I have herd them at night when running and sounding like they were tearing the woods up and running and crashing through everything.
