Got this in an email today & thought of *Contender* & others that are "Harley Hounds" & "Biker Babes", I doubt the pictures come through, but the words are all anyone needs to understand..............

JUST A BIKER

I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday.

I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local Mall.

I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief, or organizing a Poker Run for Cancer.

I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to the homeless shelter for those that had none.

I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or have their name written over and in my heart. For I love them more then life itself.

I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family after work.

I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you yelling a t your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me.

I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me she loved me and was going to have my child. Nor did you see the tear of joy in my eye at the news.

I saw you race down the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date.

I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right.

I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off.

I was just a biker. A person with a job, children & loved ones. A person with friends and a family. We are not hoods, nor scooter trash, but Doctors, Lawyers, Brothers, Sisters, Wives, Husbands, Sons, Daughters, White Collar, and Blue Collar workers. Still one of God's Children, but you didn't see me.

Repost this around in hopes that people will understand the biker community..

If you don't repost this, it sucks to be you. I hope you never lose someone that rides.

EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE US, RESPECT OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE WHAT WE CHOOSE AND TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO BE SURE WE ARE NOT IN 'YOUR' WAY

BTW, Contender is back in the ICU after his bike accident. He now has blood clots and an infection that they can't seem to get rid of. You guys still out there riding, Think about your family and children, and remember. , Ride like you're invisible, everything the other driver is going to do, is going to have a direct effect on your safety. I'm not telling you not to ride, but remember the highlighted sentence. You'll always come out second best in a small scrape with an auto.

Just a small addition. I'm not degrading bikers in any fashion, but there are a few that could use some driving etiquette. As my wife and I were returning from visiting Contender* in the hospital Sunday afternoon. We witnessed about twenty or thirty bikers coming south on 515, riding double in both lanes of the highway. They were riding quite slowly as there was about a mile or more of traffic following them filling both lanes. A few weeks ago while coming North on 515 my wife and I came upon the same scene, both lanes taken up with bikers running about 55 and not being courteous enough to move into one lane so normal speed traffic could go on. I rarely drive over 65, so I didn't run upon them while speeding. I had come upon them near the start of the autos following. By the time we got to the traffic light at Longhorns in Ellijay, there must have been a line of traffic behind me at least a mile long. Everyone had to stop at the light, and the bikers still stayed in both lanes, when the light turned green they slowly resumed and maintained their positions in both lanes. It appeared that they were intentionally trying to antagonize the 4 wheel traffic, thereby placing themselves and everyone else in danger. And people wonder why some folks don't care for bikers.

That said, a lot of four wheel vehicle drivers could use some driving etiquette too.

Kebo....great post!

Knifemaker....You hit it on the head, it goes both ways. It embarrasses me to say I ride when I'm lumped into the catagory with some of the idiot bikers out there. On the other hand, I've seen some of the most inconsiderit morons in cars when it comes to how to drive next to a bike. It's not the bikes or the cars, it's the people.
Ride safe Tom

Some of my best friends are bikers, as are Contenders. Most of the bikers I know are professionals, in business and in their leisure. They conduct themselves beyond reproach, as they work, and as they play.

Awhile back while drving back from Tybee Island, my daughter and myself were watching a "biker" in front of us.

After watching him drive for a bit, we both came out with the same expression.

There goes an organ donor.

Be safe and expect the worst.

Kebo,
I didn't see this when you posted it (obviously I was preoccupied:cry:) and even though I have given up the two wheelers I still see the enjoyment in riding. I still admire a beautiful bike and I will always drive with the biker in mind because once you ride it's just second nature. Ya'll look out, it's prime time for ridin and leaf lookin, that also means it's prime time for the "idiots" to be on the roads.
