I like the paint mark idea ! hadn't thought of that, I'm using a .458socom this season, I'm impressed with the accuracy of this thing, using 300gr ttsx's , just waiting to try it out on a hog, or a buck.

I always handfeed my first round in the ARs, then use the forward assist to slide it home.

Repeatedly feeding the same round from a magazine would scratch it up something fierce and dimple the primer pretty good. I have a rubber band on the hand guard the holds the round between hunts.

Left one hanging on a poplar tree about 35 years ago. Unless somebody got it still there.

I left one on a tree and found it decades later grown in properly.
It will never slip again.

I know the feeling of chasing a Baker tree stand to the ground. It beat me there. The pine tree I was climbing did a job on my goose down coat and arms.

I'm so mad right now. Using an ar10, I guess I didn't have the magazine fully seated because I know for a fact I pulled the charging handle all the way to the rear, and let it go.

I hunt with the same. I always, always, always visualize a round feed into the chamber and then double check by pulling back the charging handle just to make sure again.
