Glad to see my Woody's LSU fans riding high this morning. Heck, if I was in your place I would be too.
But let me tell you something, the dawgs have a lot to be happy about. Many articles I have read this week make statements like, ..."UGA maybe one of the hottest teams in the SEC right now...". "Many say UGA is lucky to be in the title game because of their schedule, I say, maybe the "Big 3" of the West are lucky they did not have to play UGA during regular season." One Alabama fan told me yesterday, "I can't pull for UGA because the West is the Best." That's funny to me, but adds to that confidence factor that I am sure the LSU kids have. They will throw their jock on the field tomorrow and UGA will roll over and bow to the kings of the west. I hope thats exactly what they are thinking.
In 2005 on a different message board, LSU fans were riding just as high. D.J. Shockley was QB of UGA and a guy named Sean Bailey was one of his best recievers. Nobody gave the dawgs a chance. LSU was #3 and UGA was #13. LSU was favored over the dawgs by 12 points that year. Dawgs won by 20. I was sitting on the 40 yard line in the 300 section. My father in-law had given my wife and I tickets to the game as a Christmas present. I remember riding the Marta train into the Dome and saying to my wife, "If we are getting our doors blown off by the 3rd quarter I might want to leave." I had that much confidence, because I was on the "we are going to lose train." This year, we should lose. We have played great against the Auburns and Tech's of the world and we have played like a freshman football team against the Kentucky's and Vandy's of the world.
For whatever reason, under Mark Richt, his teams have had tendency at times to play up or to play down to the level of their competition. Not sure why that is, but if ever the dawgs were going to play up, this would need to be that Saturday.
I offer this to you:
4 keys to winning
1. Les Miles has a winning record against every team in the SEC. Except one. Guess who?
2. UGA's defense will be the best LSU has seen minus Alabama's.
3. If Aaron Murray is on tomorrow, UGA will make this closer than anyone thinks or maybe, just maybe, even win it. But he has to be on and he has to be able to hit his receivers deep and early.
4. Mike Bobo has to call the game of his life. Throwing more than running. Crowell to me is damaged goods. Sorta like a toy held together with super glue. It's just a matter of time before it breaks. Our back up RB's are just guys who run the ball and that stuff of running on 3rd and 10 like we did against Tech has to go out the window.
Nothing super special there. For that reason, UGA has to throw and throw often. Bennett, Charles, and Mitchell. We have to call their number and call it often if UGA is to win tomorrow.
I know it's a long shot and Vegas has us to lose by 13 and some casinos have us on a 14 point line. No chance I tell ya. No chance.
GO DAWGS!
